Your body and posture
Do you often feel numbness or tingling feeling in you back when you get up from a chair?? Do you feel your neck is strained due to long working hours?? Here is a link to the best posture brace on the market. Have you noticed your stomach bulging even though you maintain a healthy diet?? All these could be vital signs to indicate that you have a bad posture.
Much has been written about the ill effects of bad posture. Good posture is a habit that needs to be inculcated from childhood. Some people are born with deformity of their spines, a condition called scoliosis. Others who are much fortunate to have been born with straight spines tend to neglect their spines by maintaining incorrect postures thus causing harm to their bodies.
Hunch back is a common problem that arises from drooping ones shoulders over a long period of time. Computer professionals often complain of postural stress which impacts the muscles and soft tissues of the neck, arms and back. Joint pain, especially in the lower back and feet are another common problem associated with incorrect posture.
A friend of mine works as a recruiting officer in a MNC. She once described an incident where a candidate had done reasonably well I his written tests and interviews, yet he was rejected the job offer. The reason for this was that the guy could not sit up right in his chair and had drooping shoulders gave out a sign of lack of confidence and self esteem.
A person’s body language speaks volumes about the person’s character. A good way to work you lower back is to lie down on your back on a flat hard surface, curl your arm behind you lower back and slowly lift you legs up. Do these a couple of time by altering you leg lifts. Next, with you arm still curled behind you back, try to curl your legs towards your abdomen.
Another good exercise is to sit on a wooden chair/short stool (preferably one that is not cushioned) with both your upper and lower back firmly rested against the back rest/against the wall. First rotate your head clockwise and then anticlockwise; then curl your shoulders forward and then backwards.
Over the last 2 decades, people have tried to devise posture correction devises. The main problem with these was that they were too constrictive; restricting blood flow and their long term implications on muscle tissue was a topic of hot debate. Today with the advancement of technology, some of these devices are well studied and have shown promising results.
Yet, one should make a conscious effort to care for their backs, through regular exercise and upright posture by Posture Now, and only if the problem is out of hands should they opt for such corrective devices.
